Does the Manitoba Building Code apply to a shed under 10 m²?

A building not greater than 10 m² in building area is excluded, provided the authority having jurisdiction is satisfied it does not create a hazard.

Conditions and exceptions

  • The exclusion is conditional — the authority having jurisdiction can still require compliance.
  • Building area is the footprint, not the floor area of all storeys.
  • Zoning setbacks, lot coverage, and electrical permits apply regardless.
