Manitoba

What size egress window does a Manitoba basement need?

The window needs an unobstructed opening of at least 0.385 m² with no dimension less than 500 mm, a sill not more than 150 mm above the floor, and any window well giving at least 550 mm of clearance.

Conditions and exceptions

  • All four dimensions apply together — meeting the area alone is not enough.
  • The opening must be achievable without tools or special knowledge.
  • This is what permits a basement floor area to rely on one means of egress.
