What fire separation is required between an attached garage and a Manitoba dwelling?
A storage garage must be separated from other occupancies by a vertical assembly with a fire-resistance rating of not less than 45 min, rising to not less than 1 h where an occupancy is above the garage.
Conditions and exceptions
- The rating applies to the assembly as a whole, including penetrations and the door.
- An occupancy above the garage triggers the higher 1 h rating.
- Gas-tightness and air barrier continuity are separate requirements from the fire rating.
